Arriving imminently from Pyzel surfboards the ‘ PYZALIEN 2 ‘ makes it’s debut at Secretspot Surf Shop . The success of the original Pyzalien some years ago led John Pyzel back to the drawing board to improve, re hash and re work what was one of their most popular surfboard models .

Having owned the Original Pyzalien myself ( that I surfed and loved all over the place before meeting the Grim reaper at a formidable East coast reef ) it was with a warm heart indeed when I learnt this was back with new improved features for 2020. An improved rocker with a low – medium entry giving easier paddle entry into the waves , that combined with a slightly fuller nose area completes the forward momentum needed to catch waves easily. Bottom contours combine a single concave up to the middle of the board leading into a subtle double concave before exiting the tail with a nice blend of vee for smooth transitional turns and manoeuvres.

Tail shape comes in the form of the classic swallow tail that is pulled in to handle speed and quick direction changes but especially loves the good day at the beachies and gives a nod and a wink to the Reef and point waves the East coast has become synonyms with .Rather than an all out shortboard attack, this has a touch more width and volume up front and a tad more foam hidden in the deck, think fluid linked up performance surfing  with an all out style and flare and when this board is pushed it will certainly co-operate back. A great everyday board but slightly edging towards the performance stable in 2-6 feet+ of surf range. The combination of lower entry and extra width up front would make this an ideal board for a younger keen surfer wanting to move into the shortboard category but also fits the bill for an older ( like me ) experienced surfer who still wants to draw some good flowing lines and manoeuvres without the restrictions of a super skinny board that hinders more than it shines  !!!

Our verdict – Likely to be an excellent all round board for good beachies, reefs and points . More waves more fun with a nod to the more performance stylist surfer who likes to flow and connect in a variety of conditions. A great pulled in swallow tail will hold well when the surf gets overhead and thus a great 1 board quiver for home or on your travels if your looking for above average surfing conditions . Could be my next surfboard !!!
