This page is here to give you an insight into what we do and also to introduce you to our amazingly diverse if not slightly disfunctional team...
We are based in Scarborough on the East coast of England and for the last 22 years have been striving to provide the very best in surfboards, wetsuits, accessories and clothing offering professional and impartial advice on anything surf related and beyond. Since those early days in 1989 we've changed with the times and built up a solid customer base both in-store and online, we introduced the first free surfcam in Scarborough and provide an indepth and accurate 4 day surf forecast to keep you in the picture, plus with online board and wetsuit reviews we can even help you when we're closed, which isn't often!.
Living and surfing on the East Coast we pride ourselves on being cold water surf specialists and carry a multitude of tried and tested products to suit all budgets and keep you warm and comfortable year round, so whether you're after tropical wax for that Indo trip or 8mm boots for English winters we're here to help and advise...
THE SECRET SPOT TEAM
Paul Tomlinson (Tomo) - Owner/Slave driver
Tomo has been in surf retail for the last 20yrs and co owns both Secretspot and Cayton with wife Lou - he loves to party, work and play hard. When he manages to find time to surf at Cayton... he still surfs good, providing the wooden leg is well oiled - although he's always a fixture on the points when things get over head. When he isn't head to foot in not so flattering neoprene he can either be found flying around on his KTM 250 which begrudgingly he's pretty damn good on or trying to catch Lou off-piste in the mountains.
Lou Tomlinson - Co-owner/Accounts
Lou is head of accounts and a busy mum of two, she brings some feminine calm to the office and keeps the staff in order... Outside of work she's the only girl we've ever seen charging Cayton point at size...and after spending 8 years in the Alps/Biarritz riding for Quicksilver in her younger days she's faster than you on a snowboard.
James Turner (JT, Weeman, little James) - Store Manager/Hardware buyer/Internet support/Surf instructor
What can we say about him...enigmatic, well pro-portioned, punctual...nah! James has been with the team for six years, originally managing Secretspot inbetween travelling and surfing all over the world before running our Cayton shop and surf school for the last three years. When not charging local reefs and trying to keep up with the boss on a dirt bike, he's to be found teaching the next generation of rippers on the beaches, or playing Call of Duty (sad but true). What this guy doesn't know about surfing isn't worth knowing and James answers all your surf related queries here.
John Bagnall (Digga) - Store Manager/Buyer/Internet support
Digga has been with us for two years having worked in fashion and music for most of his adult life, hes only 26 but he keeps searching out the latest fashions in clothing and footwear to keep you, the end users dressed fresh. When not surfing or skating he can usually be found performing his very own songs and fat beats in bars or clubs around the UK. He's called Digga because his initials are JCB...simples!
Adam Birchfield (Richie C) - Sales team
Whilst looking uncannily like Richie Cunningham off Happy Days, Adam can be found helping out in Secret Spot HQ at weekends and holidays. Richie surfs well but is destined to better things after just getting 21 GCSE's (19A*2A's) which is quite unbelievable as common sense is sometimes lacking.
Sam Longley - Sales team
Sam is the youngest member of the team but surfs realy good for a 14 year old and is probably the hottest grom around here. When not snackin he can be found helping out with the surf hire and retail at Cayton Bay or taking daily grommit abuse.
